Introducing Myself to the Others

I found it really interesting to create this blog and post my writings on it. I like it when I write www.pebbules.blogspot.com and I see part of myself there. I chose a layout that corresponds to my personality, even though people are always talking that I am addicted to pink – this is actually not true. I find this color girlish, sweet, and free. I enjoyed writing these pieces because we had to choose our topics on our own and also the deadlines were not so binding on the writing that we have to post. Also the work was not so much because we could use some of the writings we did for class. There was a fun part of the activity – posting pictures, videos, and related cites because I could use the Internet and search for things I am interested to and than show it to everyone. It was also exciting to share comments with my partner from Kentucky and read her writing. I felt connected to her in some way and had the ability to see what people of my age are writing from different places. The fact that your friends can log in and see your writings is very exciting. For example, Antoniya Boyanova, who is one of my best friends, felt touched by one of my writings Priceless Experience which was actually dedicated to her, too. She told me that she felt inspired by it and wrote on of her posts. As a whole, I can say that this blog was a fun thing to do and I am thinking on continuing working on it.

Winnie The Pooh by A Milan

An interesting and funny book for a little bear and its adventures. This is Winnie The Pooh by A Milan. Pooh is one of the favorite characters of the little children and a lot of the grown-ups. The author got inspired to write this book because of his son whose name is Christopher Milan. This is also the name of one of the main characters who is the only human in the story – Christopher Robin. Winnie the Pooh tells a story for a bear that has “a little fluffy thing” in his head and has a lot of friends with who he has unique experiences. This little bear loves honey and goes to many obstacles in order to receive it – flies with a balloon, gets stuck in a hole, and goes around the whole forest. In every quest there are memorable quotes for Pooh that are remembered by all of the readers. This book is one of my favorites because it makes me feel a little bit younger and carefree.

Mommy's Girl

There are girls who grow up without mother care because there had been an accident with their mother or because their parents are divorced. There are also girls who love their father more and are used to spending their time with him. I am not one of those girls. I cannot imagine life without my mother and I do not want to. The most important relationship that I have in my life is the one with my mother. She is the one person in the world that I care for and love the most. Of course, I love the other members of my family but it is not the same. She is very special for me because she is both a mother and a friend of mine.
As most of the mothers, or at least that we see on the movies, not the tragedies, my mother has been taking care of me since I was born. She was cooking for me and my two brothers twice a day and always did what I wanted to do. My mother, whose name is Boriana, has never been angry at me and never made me cry. I remember a time when I was living with her and my brothers, without daddy. At this time my father was taking care of our new apartment and there were two months when he did not have time to go everyday from the one apartment to the other. I can say that during this time I was pretty happy because we always managed to think of something that was interesting for the whole family. I also love my brothers and my father but in a different way. They appeared to me as the big heroes that are going to save me from everything and my mom was the one that I spent my time with, excluding the time when I was in kindergarten.
Except the fact that she is an awesome mother, I can say that she is one of my best friends. Even though she has a lot of work and she stays at her office till late, the first thing that she does when she comes home is to see me. Everyday she asks me about my day and she is interest about the people she has heard of. Sometimes I think that mom knows their personalities even better than I do. I have told her stories about my friends and actually she has met most of them. Also, I share my problems with her and she always has the best advice. When I do something stupid she is there for me and never tell my father or my brothers what I have done. Because of this I know that I can tell her everything and I feel a little better.
When I feel sad I talk to her and everything seems better. When I am happy - I know that we can have a conversation again and I can make her smile, too. Because of those many reasons she is the most valuable person in my life.

A Cruel Plan

IAGO
That’s not amiss.
But yet keep time in all. Will you withdraw?
[Othello withdraws.]
Now will I question Cassio of Bianca,
A huswife that by selling her desires
Buys herself bread and {clothes.} It is a creature
That dotes on Cassio – as ‘tis strumpet’s plague
To beguile many and be beguiled by one.
He, when he hears of her, cannot restrain
From the excess of laughter. Here he comes.
Enter Cassio.
As he shall smile, Othello shall go mad,
And his unbookish jealousy must {construe}
Poor Cassio’s smiles, gestures, and light behaviors
Quite in the wrong. How do you luiterant?

(Act IV, Scene I, 109-120, p. 177)

Adolf Hitler is a historical figure that everyone has heard of. He has convinced whole nations to listen to his dictatorship in order to reach his goals. After a lot of murders and victories he has achieved his aims but his destiny was clear – there comes a time when he receives what he deserves, and dies. This is just one example of a villain from a historical point of view and there are many others – from books and movies. Iago plays the role of the antagonist in Shakespeare’s tragedy Othello. His plan is clearly presented in Act 4 Scene 1 lines 109-120. His speech illustrates his brilliant cruelty, connected to two of the main themes in the play – honor and doubt, and shows his characterization.
To this moment Iago’s plan is working pretty well – he has convinced Othello that his wife is cheating on him. The villain has used his wife Emilia. Iago had told his wife to do everything possible to take Desdemona’s handkerchief that Othello has given to the daughter of the Venetian senator as a sign of their love. His action show his skilled manipulation with this action because his wife does not know that she is part of his cruel plan. Actually, she has no idea what he is thinking of and who will get into his net of lies. Iago also talks to Cassio and assures him that Desdemona is the only one who can help him to return to his position and to win again the trust of Othello. Because of the conversations and the time that Cassio and Desdemona spend together, the main character of the play becomes suspicious. The last person that Iago uses in order to achieve his goal is Roderigo. He tells him that the only way to take Cassio’s place as a lieutenant of Cyprus and the one who has the love of Desdemona is to kill him. If everything goes well for Iago, the situation should be the following: Othello should kill Desdemona and lose his honor and when Cassio and Roderigo fight, both of them to find their deaths. This way Iago will be the only one who will be honored and he will take all of the important positions. The theme of honor is a leading theme in the play – all of the characters fight in order to achieve it. His plan is brilliant because he is very sharp-witted, manipulative and intelligent but the situation goes wrong.
The monologue of Iago in Act 4 Scene 1 reveals his cruel plan very clearly and concerns the theme of women in this play. Their role is very important. First, a woman stays in the center with the problem – Desdemona, the one who has left her father and admitted the race difference of her beloved because of her feelings. Emilia is significant for the success of Iago’s plan. This shows that his heart is cold as a stone. He treats her with no respect like she is no one is his life. The third woman Bianca, is described in this speech of Iago. The reader can gain the idea of the image of Bianca’s character. She is described as a:
A huswife that by selling her desires
Buys herself bread and clothes.
Earlier in the play it becomes clear that she is a prostitute in love with Cassio and Iago shows this in his speech using the simile “as ’tis the strumpet’s plague”. It clearly shows Iago’s attitude towards women. The long description and the long sentences show that this villain is ready to do everything in order to get what he wants and that he does not care about anyone else besides him. In this part, it becomes clear that he will question Cassio of Bianca while Othello is thinking that Cassio is describing his intimate moments with Desdemona. Iago speaks of Othello’s jealousy as “bookish” which shows that the only reason for it is Iago’s controlling words. The villain has thought about Othello’s reaction and this becomes clear in line 10 where he talks about the synchronization of Othello’s and Cassio’s actions. The way Iago speaks shows that he has no doubt that his plan will work as he wants to.
The speech of Iago shows how brilliant and manipulative he is. He earns the trust of Othello and the main character of the play loses his adequate thinking. He uses his wife and two of the characters that he is pretending to be friend with in order for his plan to succeed. The motive to all of these is honor which is one of the main themes in the play. Iago can be compared with Adolf Hitler based on their actions and destinies and the eventual punishment.

Priceless Experience

Since this is my last year at the American College of Sofia, I decided to write a little bit about the pleasant and the not-so-good experiences. Even though that there are a lot of rules that we have to follow, which we dislike very much, we have gone through countless unforgettable moments, learnt more about ourselves and life as a whole, and met people that have changed us and we are going to remember forever.
Every year there is something new happening – new sections, teachers, people, and rules. I study German as a second foreign language and because of that I am never able to be in the same section with my close friends but I have found the profitable side of this situation – I meet new people. And these people are quite interesting because they are unlike the ones I go out every day with. The situation about the teachers is a little bit different because just at the time when I get used to someone, the administration changes the teacher. For example, every year I have a different teacher in Bulgarian and that is not very pleasant because just at the time that I get used to this teacher and her expectation, the year ends and the next one they assign us a new one. Most of the times I like the change because I believe that there is something more to learn from every new professor. Throughout all of these changes and lessons, I believe that I have found myself – I have learnt more about whom I actually am and where I am standing in this enormous world.
My friends also helped me to discover who I am and to realize that there are people who are actually worth it. There are a lot of people that I have believed that are my friends, will be there for me, and I have been ready to do anything for them but then seen their worse face. I believe that a person should have seen the ugly in order to recognize the beautiful and now I can see how beautiful my friends actually are. They are like my second family because I spend every day with them at school and every Friday and Saturday night we go out together somewhere. Sometimes we feel like we are so uncreative and go to the same places over and over again but there is always someone who has a brilliant idea. Most of the people do not actually like them because they are too loud sometimes and like to go out. We barely talk about school in front of the others because when we are at school we can’t wait for the weekend to begin. Because of that some people make the wrong conclusion that we do not care which actually is not true. We understand how important school is but we know how to have fun and spend time together. I love them but I cannot say that they are perfect: we have had our fights and the “not talking” periods but after all everything ends up perfectly.
Even though we criticize the teachers and the school because sometimes we have so many assignments to do and so many sleepless nights, I am going to miss the atmosphere and the whole experience. Despite the whole drama, gossip and quarrels, I am going to miss my close friends and I hope that we will keep in touch. I am used to this way of living and this routine but I have to move on and meet new expectations and understand that now I am further from childhood and closer to the life of a grown-up person. The experience at the ACS was beautiful, with both good and bad moments; it went away like a few days in my life. When I think of it a big smile appears on my face and I can feel little tears in my eyes because I do not want to let go…

I attached a video with one of the songs that I connect with my friends. We say that this is our song. I am always going to be there for them when they need me and even when they do not. I chose exactly this video because the lyrics can be seen and there are pictures that symbolize friendship

Unforgettable Moment

A beautiful day. I was in an old classroom. It was obvious that it hadn’t been renovated since the school was built. The room was enormous with pinky-reddish walls with white lines on the bottom. Two of the walls had gigantic windows and when the wind blew strongly, it seemed that they were going to fall down. One of the walls, where the teacher’s desk was, had a green board. It was divided in three and each part was for a different subject. In the middle part there were lines so it was for writing, on the left side there were squares for math, and on the right side there was an empty green space which could be used for whatever the teacher wanted. Everything in this room was very old but I felt nice there. I spent one third of my day there so I had gotten used to this place and the people there. I was sitting next to my best friend in the fourth, last, desk, the one that was farthest away from the teacher’s table. As everything else in the room, the desks were old and wooden and they had a lot of drawings on them. I had biology and for sure this was not one of my favorite subjects because I was not good at it. My favorite one was mathematics and I hated all of the subjects that we had to present a lesson – biology, chemistry, and physics. I hated the part when you have to stand in front of the class and to tell the people what you have actually read in the textbooks.
It was five thirty in the evening and I could see the sun calmly touching the enormous green crowns of the trees. For a moment I was at another place. I was day-dreaming that I was alone, walking on fresh green grass, listening to the silence. At this moment I was alone with my thoughts and I felt that I could do anything I wanted – just like some superhero from the movies. But I had to stay in reality. I looked around – I could see a lot of familiar faces, the ones of my classmates. There was this boy that I liked – his name was Martin. He had fascinating blue eyes, blonde hair and a straight, gorgeous nose. He looked like the little boys from the movies that give the impression of angels and all of the audience is in sympathy with him. There were a lot of other boys and girls – some with brown hair, others with black hair and all had different faces and expression, showing that they were bored or really happy because it was one of the last classes that we had to take for the day, but they were not so vivid. Next to me was Joanna – Maria. She was staring at me, obviously wanting to say something, but at that moment the teacher was looking at us with her strict look which showed that we had to be silent even though she understood that almost nobody liked her subject.
Joanna was not like the others. She had a different style – we were eleven years old and she dressed like the girls that were at the age of seventeen. She had straight, very dark black hair, which seemed to be exhausted from all the products that were put on it, and her eyes were the same color. I think that I liked her just because she was not like the rest of the people at this age. Her notebooks were at first look just normal, but when I looked closely at the pages, I could see a lot of drawings that were marvelous. Maybe I was fascinated by them because I cannot draw or because she really had a talent. One image remained very clearly in my mind – a girl looking in a mirror and seeing a princess there. The girl was nothing special. She wore normal clothes, even a little old-fashioned, her trousers were gone at the knees, and the colors were so many and they did not have anything in common. She was at the age of twenty – twenty-four but her face looked tortured by the time. At the other side of the mirror there was a beautiful blonde princess that looked very joyful and satisfied with her life. This picture had a very deep meaning – it made me think of the fact that almost every little girl dreams to become a princess, married to a beautiful prince, living in an enormous castle and having many magnificent dresses. But when these little girls grow up they see the actual life and understand that life is not only happiness and love but there is reality which sometimes can be cruel and unpleasant.
Our teacher called one of the girls, Tsvetelina, in front of the green board and started asking her questions about the way mammals live and what their respiratory system is. At this moment Joanna – Maria and I knew that we could have a conversation. As before every biology class, we had bought our favorite snack “Hrupanki”. We opened them carefully because we did not want to bother the class. The packet was yellow and orange and there were two slices of its chips that were smiling and holding hands on the front of the packet. In this class we invented the story that these happy pieces on the packet were the two of us. We were used to being together all the time – if we were not together, than we were with our families. And I felt like she was my older sister that was always by my side and could made me feel better and help me.
We were talking about the dream she had had last night. She had been dreaming that there were a lot of enormous, black spiders that had long hair on their legs. After that she had woken up and had not slept till the sun rose. This was because she hated spiders and this was the only thing that she was afraid of. I remember my fears too – all different kinds of insects, the dark, strange people, the malicious people from the children stories. I was afraid almost of everything that a little girl could be afraid of. But Joanna was not like me – her fear was of spiders. We continued talking till the end of the period and we were discussing things that were not actually important - we were just relaxing.
I felt that this hour I was carried away in my dreams and memories because I felt better and safer there. I wanted this moment to last forever even though it was in a biology class that I actually hated. I was feeling calm and I had my best friend by my side and my parents waiting for me at home. The bell rang, everyone smiled because it was the end of the school day but I could not smile…

People ALWAYS Want More

There are different cultures and ways of living all over the world and people see things through different perspectives. I think that one fact that unites us all is that people always want more or want to experience something new. This is because of the “baby dreams” that we want to fulfill, the improvement that we want to reach, and the new things that we want to experience.
Let me begin with the dreams that almost every little girl has had. Most of us, the girls, have dreamed to become famous models, live in a huge house, and have a husband like the one Barbie has. As we grow up, we understand that this is not the highest peak that we can reach. This is just one example and there are a lot more just like that one. People dreaming about something and after that realizing that this is not everything they have wanted. This is a very simple illustration but it shows us very clearly that people are never satisfied with what they have.
Furthermore, since the beginning of life, we have wanted and sought for improvement. If this were not true maybe now we would be living in caves, be happy when it is raining, and when we sit by the fire. Generations have gone through different periods and the goal of every next one is to become better. For instance, our parents were eager to see a black and white television and proud when they had one at home, and now it is a normal thing to have 40-inch colored plasma at home. This is a proof that people always want more and willing to reach more.
Another point worth mentioning is that people always seek for a new experience. All of the extreme shows that are made and the opportunities that are presented show that. People want adrenalin. Haven’t you wanted to get in your car and drive very fast? You do not feel safe but you feel that feeling that goes through your stomach and after you stop, you feel free and satisfied. This way people can feel that they are still alive and do something different from the everyday life which with time becomes boring. People do all of these experiments because they want something different.
This need for improvement is maybe the best part of our lives. If we were satisfied, there will not be any sense in living. People will have the same life everyday and they will get tired of living. The point of life is to enjoy every minute of it because it is not everlasting!
